And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 You and your fathers? 76 Yet they are my enemies except the Lord of all the worlds 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 “The day when neither wealth will benefit nor will sons.” 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 And they will say while they dispute with one another, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 no caring friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 103 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 104
