The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 But not so the worshippers 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 Are free of blame, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
