Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 And what can make you know what is [breaking through] the difficult pass? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
