The assembly of Pharaoh's nation said: 'This man is a wellversed sorcerer 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: Throw! And when they threw they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and overawed them, and produced a mighty spell. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
