The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 narratives that are full of consummate wisdom. But warnings do not avail them. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
