He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
