And certainly We sent Musa with Our communications to Firon and his chiefs, so he said: Surely I am the apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 So when he brought Our signs to them, they started mocking at them! 47 although each sign that We showed them was weightier than the preceding one: and [each time] We took them to task through suffering, so that they might return [to Us]. 48 And they said, "O thou sorcerer! Invoke thy Lord for us according to His covenant with thee; for we shall truly accept guidance." 49 But when We removed the torment from them, behold! They broke their covenant (that they will believe if We remove the torment for them). 50 And the Pharaoh said to his people: "O people, is not mine the kingdom of Egypt and these rivers that flow at my feet? Can you still not comprehend? 51 "Am I not better than this (Moses), who is a contemptible wretch and can scarcely express himself clearly? 52 "Why then are not golden bracelets bestowed on him, or angels sent along with him?" 53 So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allah]. 54 Then when they provoked Our wrath, We took revenge on them and drowned every one of them. 55 and so We made them a thing of the past, and an example to those who would come after them. 56
