Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god but He. He quickeneth and causeth to die: your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
