Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 and what shall teach thee what is the steep? 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 Of a related orphan, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
