And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The Faithful Spirit has descended with it, 193 to your heart that you might become one of those who warn (others on behalf of Allah), 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 And most surely the same is in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 In this wise have We made way for it into the hearts of the culprits. 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 So it will come upon them suddenly, whilst they will be unaware. 202 Then they will say: Are we to be reprieved? 203 Would they then wish for Our Torment to be hastened on? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 of what avail would their past enjoyment be to them? 207 And We destroyed no township but it had its warners 208 By way of reminder; and We never are unjust. 209 And the devils have not brought the revelation down. 210 Neither would it suit them, nor they can (produce it). 211 They have been precluded from hearing it. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And warn thy clan, thy nearest kin. 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 Then if they disobey thee, say: "I am free (of responsibility) for what ye do!" 216 And rely on the Mighty, the Merciful, 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 O people, shall I tell you on whom it is that satans descend? 221 They descend upon all sinful self-deceivers 222 The devils convey upon them what they heard, but most of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And that they say that which they do not? 226 Save those who believe and do good works, and remember Allah much, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. Those who do wrong will come to know by what a (great) reverse they will be overturned! 227
