Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 Then he joined the lots, and was of the condemned. 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing? 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 But as for you, and that you serve, 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 There is not one of us (angels) but has his known place (or position); 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 They used to say before: 167 "If only we had a tradition [to this effect] from our forebears, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 And assuredly Our word hath already gone forth Our bondmen, the sent ones: 171 That they would be helped, 172 and Our armies shall be the victors. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 And watch them, for they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten on Our Torment? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 and see; soon they shall see! 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds! 182
God the Almighty always says the truth.
