The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
