(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 Have fear of God and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 Within gardens and springs 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day." 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
