The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and banana trees, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
