Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
