He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
