The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
