He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
