The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
