Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 A revelation from the Beneficent, the Merciful, 2 A Book whose verses have been distinguished and explained, a lucid discourse for people who understand, 3 good tidings to bear, and warning, but most of them have turned away, and do not give ear. 4 and so they say, [as it were:] "Our hearts are veiled from whatever thou callest us to, [O Muhammad,] and in our ears is deafness, and between us and thee is a barrier. Do, then, [whatever thou wilt, whereas,] behold, we shall do [as we have always done]!" 5 Say (Prophet Muhammad): 'I am only a human like you, to whom it is revealed that your God is One God. Therefore be straight with Him and ask Him to forgive you. Woe to the idolaters, 6 [and] those who do not spend in charity: for it is they, they who [thus] deny the truth of the life to come! 7 The righteously striving believers will have a never-ending reward". 8
