He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
