And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They exclaimed: But we found our forefathers doing the same!" 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord, give me judgment, and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the hosts of Iblis, together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 no loyal friend. 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
