Hath there come unto thee the story of Ibrahim's honoured guests? 24 When they entered upon him, they said: Peace. Peace, said he, a strange people. 25 Then he turned quietly to his household, and brought forth a fat [roasted] calf, 26 And he set it before them, saying: Will ye not eat? 27 Then he became afraid of them. They said: “Fear not,” and announced to him the good news of (the birth of) a boy endowed with knowledge. 28 His wife came forward, crying and beating her face, saying, "I am an old barren woman!" 29 They said: "Thus said your Lord. He is indeed all-wise and all-knowing." 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "What is your errand, O messengers?" 31 They said: Surely we are sent to a guilty people, 32 So as to let loose clods of clay on them 33 Marked in the presence of your Lord for the transgressors." 34 So We brought out from therein the believers. 35 but We found not therein except one house of those that have surrendered themselves. 36 And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 And in Moses (too, there is a portent) when We sent him unto Pharaoh with clear warrant, 38 But he turned away with his forces and said: A magician or a mad man. 39 So We seized him and his hosts and cast them into the sea. Indeed, he was blameworthy. 40 And in 'A-ad also was a lesson, when We sent against them the barren wind. 41 It spared naught that it reached, but made it (all) as dust. 42 And in [the story of the tribe of] Thamud, too, when they were told, "You shall enjoy your life for [but] a little while," 43 But they brazenly disobeyed their Lord's command, and then a sudden chastisement overtook them while they looked on. 44 So they were not able to stand, nor could they help themselves. 45 And the people of Nuh before, surely they were a transgressing people. 46
