The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news - 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 a fitting requital, 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
