He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
