Nay! By the moon 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 a warning to humans, 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except the people of the right hand, 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 From the guilty. 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
