The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is stretched forth, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand 7 He will be judged with an easy account 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)! 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
