Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?” 70 They said, "We worship idols and will continue to cling to them." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 and, whenever I am sick, heals me, 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 "Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And hell will be revealed for the astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
