(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
