The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
