He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 Mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
