The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the giver of birth, and whom he fathered, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
