The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 and by the sky and by Him Who made it; 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
