And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They said, 'We serve idols, and continue cleaving to them. 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 “And forgive my father* – he is indeed astray.” (His paternal uncle) 86 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are [all] resurrected - 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 It will be said to them: 'Where is that you worshipped, 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 So they and all the astray were flung into hell. 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They shall say while they contend therein: 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we might return again, and be among the believers' 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
