Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 raised couches, 13 And cups put in place 14 And arranged carpets. 15 and well spread carpets. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
