In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
