The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
