The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Surely We showed him the Right Path, regardless of whether he chooses to be thankful or unthankful (to his Lord). 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 a spring from which God's servants will drink, making it gush forth in branches. 6 They (are those who) fulfill (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil will be wide-spreading. 7 And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, 8 (saying): “We feed you only for Allah's sake; we do not seek of you any recompense or thanks, 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 And in that [paradise] they will be given to drink of a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and thick silk interwoven with gold, and they shall be adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall make them drink a pure drink. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
