Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
We sent Noah to his people telling him, "Warn your people before a painful torment approaches them". 1 He said: O my people! verily I am unto you a warner manifest. 2 that you should worship God [alone] and be conscious of Him. "Now do pay heed unto me, 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said: O my Lord! surely I have called my people by night and by day! 5 But my invitation increased them not except in flight. 6 "And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride. 7 And lo! I have called unto them aloud, 8 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private. 9 Then I said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord, surely He is the most Forgiving: 10 He will let loose the sky upon you in abundance 11 and will aid you with worldly goods and children, and will bestow upon you gardens, and bestow upon you running waters. 12 What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity 13 seeing that He has created [every one of] you in successive stages? 14 Do you not see how Allah has created seven heavens, one upon the other, 15 and has placed the moon in them as a light, and the sun as a radiant lamp? 16 "'And God has caused you to grow out of the earth in [gradual] growth; and thereafter He will return you to it [in death]: 17 He will make you return to it and then take you out of it again. 18 Allah has made the earth spread out for you 19 so that you may tread its spacious paths.” 20
