The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A home for the rebellious. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
