So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us). 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 and they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you judge? 154 Do you not understand? 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 except for God's sincere servants. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 can cause anyone to fall prey to your temptation 162 Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell. 163 None of us is there, but has a known station; 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 And verily Our host! they are to be overcome. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 Withdraw from them awhile 178 And watch; they will come to know soon. 179 Purity is to your Lord, the Lord of Honour, from all what they say. 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 182
