Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
