۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 “Instead of Allah and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 So our Lord's Word is realised against us; we are tasting it. 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our aliha (gods) for the sake of a mad poet? 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 Fruits; and they will be honoured. 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 Verily, We have caused it to be a trial for evildoers: 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils: 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
