Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
