The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 and to Us belong the hereafter and the worldly life. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
