The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
