The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 'I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 amidst [these] gardens and springs 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And obey not the command of the prodigal, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
