Nay, by the moon, 32 And the night when it departs, 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 About the guilty: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 “Nor used to feed the needy.” 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
