He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyous 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
