Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
